A Visit with "CJ" from Tennessee

"CJ" has been a regular caller for a number of years. Always a bit of a mystery till this wonderful conversation of a few days back on Thanksgiving morning, November 22nd. "CJ" played steel guitar with Waylon Jennings for a number of years. He is well aquainted both Nashville and the Twin Cities. He tours now with Gary Allan www.garyallan.com. "CJ" will be joining me for some special programs to honor the history of country music and some very special country music legends. One of his many passions is to encourage other musicians and songwriters. That will also be a part of our coming broadcasts. I will bring these future programs to your attention well ahead of our broadcast times ON THE AIR! If you wish to contact "CJ" his email address is: cjudeen@aol.com

Judy's Savory Poultry Squares

Judy's Savory Poultry Squares

3 oz. package of cream cheese
3 Tablespoons butter, melted
2 cups cooked, cubed poultry (turkey will be more flavorful than chicken)
¼ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
2 Tablespoons milk
1 Tablespoon onion or chive, minced
thyme (just to taste – about 1/8 to 1/16 teaspoon)
¾ cup seasoned croutons, crushed (Progresso Italian Bread Crumbs makes it easy)
1, 8 oz. can crescent rolls (from the dairy case)

Heat the oven to 350. Blend cream cheese and 2 Tablespoons of the melted butter. Add the next 6 ingredients, and mix well. Separate the crescent roll dough into 4 rectangles. Press the dough out with your hands, to make it a bit thinner, and widen the rectangle. Make sure the perforations are well sealed. Place ¼ cup of the mixture into the center of each rectangle. Wrap them, and seal the dough all around. Again, make sure there are no breaches in the dough. Brush the remaining 1 Tablespoon of melted butter on the top of each, and sprinkle with the bread crumbs. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Makes 4.

Maud Hixon, Arne Fogel and Rick Carlson!

Hixon and Fogel’s collaboration of joyous duets, "Let’s Not Be Sensible," presents both artists in a fun frolic of adult musical attraction. The chemistry is Astair graciously supporting Ginger Rogers to swirl in all her shimmering glory.

For 15 years, Sunday brunch at The Times has featured the Twin Cities’ longest running house band, The Wolverines Trio. Dressed with tailored simplicity, honey-haired and fresh-faced, guest vocalist Hixson takes the stage with unadorned stillness. Her voice has the sophistication of silver satin, a cool sexiness that’s absolutely in control of the situation. Doing the clever banter of Gershwin or Cole Porter, she sounds the way Grace Kelly looks."I approach jazz as a musician, as an instrument. You’re also a storyteller," says Hixson during a break in her set. "I sublimate my voice to the lyric. I won’t show off just for the sake of it. My voice has to express the song—not obscure it."Hixson did Johnny Mercer’s ballad ‘I Hate To See October Go’ and achingly exposed lost love. Truthful emotions expressed with such beautiful nuance break an audience’s heart a bit, and Hixson brought tears to my eyes by the song’s close."I didn’t find anything in the angry, angst-ridden music. Everyone trying to be ‘cool’ and ‘edgy,’" she says of her brooding younger self when she discovered jazz, with a special love for Judy Garland. "Being positive and expressing happiness and joy—these songs are real and grown-up. ""There’s two reasons Hixson’s special. She’s immersed herself totally in this music—she’s not just trying this on. Her intonation, pitch, and musicality are intrinsically part of her nature," he laughs. "Maud’s got this music so down, she really keeps me on the ball!"The song, says Hixson, is king, as she prepares for her final set of the evening. "If I didn’t love this music, I’d do something else."But, Maud Hixson is totally, madly smitten with jazz, and if you give her a listen, there’s a strong chance you’ll be infatuated, too. It’s a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon—or, better yet, take a special someone out on one of these autumn evenings.

Crosby And American Culture" (2002). In 2003 Arne Fogel wrote, co-produced, and hosted a special program "Moments To Remember", presented in the 3M Auditorium of the MINNESOTA HISTORY CENTER.

Dr. David Schultz of Hamline University - dschultz@hamline.edu - observations and reflections about the November 2006 election and what we might expect in the days and months ahead from Washington and from St. Paul.

Dear American Herowww.dearamericanhero.com - Richard Glasgow wanted to make it easier for people to thank soldiers and veterans for their service. And now the Lakeland man has two-time presidential candidate Ross Perot to thank for underwriting his effort: The Texas businessman has pledged about $10,000 to pay for another 1 million of the business card-style tokens Glasgow designed to be handed out as a message of gratitude.

Glasgow
created the cards because he thinks some people find it awkward to thank soldiers and veterans in person. The cards feature a yellow ribbon and are inscribed with the message: "Thank you for your service and dedication to our country."

Only 6,500 of the first 50,000 cards Glasgow had printed remain. Glasgow delivered the others around the Midwest, to soldiers in Iraq and to veterans organizations in Washington
.

"I'm finding out that America wants to thank their military veterans," said Glasgow, an Air Force veteran who served near Tokyo
during the Vietnam War.

Last week, Glasgow
sent a letter to Perot asking him to support his cause — and Perot responded with a phone call Tuesday to say he would.

Why ask Perot? "When you look at a list of American patriots, Ross Perot is always at the top," Glasgow
said.

Sharon Holman, a spokeswoman for Perot, said he has long supported veterans and prisoners of war.

Health Care Reform with Dr. Maureen Reed – Team Minnesota's candidate for Lt. Governor for the Independence Party – The traditional role for the Lt. Governor is as a ceremonial stand-in for the Governor. We should expect and get more for our money from an elected state executive. The Lt. Governor should be ready to become Governor, if necessary. That means the Lt. Governor must be a full partner with the Governor and Team Minnesota in setting priorities and employing resources to achieve those results.

Dr. Maureen Reed has dedicated her career to delivering better health outcomes for Minnesotans. She earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota, practiced as Internal Medicine doctor, and most recently served as the Medical Director for HealthPartners. In 1997, she was elected by the Legislature to the Board of Regents at the University of Minnesota where she served for 8 years. As the Chair of the Regents she led the University through the successful transition from Mark Yudof to President Bob Bruininks. As Minnesota's next Lt. Governor, Maureen will use those leadership skills and passion for health care reform to move this state forward. http://www.teammn.com/
