Christina Baldwin's life work addresses the deep need in modern culture to re-establish authentic and heartfelt dialogues. After graduating from Macalester College with an honors degree in English and from Columbia Pacific University with a master's degree in Educational Psychology, she began her public career in the field of journal writing. Her classic books, One to One, Self-Understanding through Journal Writing, and Life's Companion Journal Writing as a Spiritual Quest, have helped tens of thousands of people articulate the dialogue they are having with themselves.

Her long study of personal growth and group dynamics led to her groundbreaking book, Calling the Circle, the First and Future Culture. Her original contribution, PeerSpirit methodology, is based on ways that council can help people have significant conversations with each other. Her book, The Seven Whispers, A Spiritual Practice for Times Like These, invited people into a dialogue with soul. And now, in Storycatcher, Making Sense of our Lives through the Power and Practice of Story, she turns to the theme that weaves through all her work and writing: her utter belief in the power of story to renew how we are in the world on an individual to collective level.

North Star Rising a Conversation with Author Barry Cassleman

Barry Casselman holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Iowa. He founded and published his first newspaper in Minnesota at age 29. Covering Minnesota and national politics since 1972, Casselman is now a nationally syndicated columnist who contributes regularly to many of the leading public affairs and political analysis publications. He is currently the CEO of the Preludium News Service and resides in Minneapolis.

North Star Rising traces the impact Minnesota's politicians have had on national politics, from its first territorial governor, Alexander Ramsey, to Vice Presidents Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale. Filled with colorful, little-known anecdotes and unusual historical connections, North Star Rising is a highly readable, often humorous, frequently surprising account of how the nation came to take notice of this northern Midwestern state. The book concludes with a look at recent Minnesota political figures as well as a peek at some of the rising stars of the DFL, Republican, and Independence parties. It depicts Minnesota's political involvement on the national stage from the state's infancy to its hosting of the Republican National Convention in 2008.
