Bob Crane and the C. Crane Company

C. Crane’s History:

One saying goes: You better have a good idea or a good education if you want to get somewhere. Good ideas can make radio into a powerful media and C. Crane has been an idea factory for quite some time. We have been on the cutting (even bleeding!) edge of the development of many diverse technological innovations. While none of our ideas are as world changing as making the first radio or inventing the Web, we have been behind many solid advances in existing technology: LED flashlights to wind-up radios with LED flashlights (called the Baygen) and one of the first digital recorders (the CC Recorder). While many firms have dozens or even hundreds of engineers to work on an idea we usually have one or two gifted engineers who are passionate about their work and who know how to think outside the box.

During the last decade, C. Crane put together the final pieces of, and brought to market, the first viable video conferencing system (Vidian) with a realistic cost of only $400. We have set new performance standards in portable radios with our CCRadio line and we developed the powerful Twin Coil Ferrite AM Antenna. There are more than a dozen other products throughout our catalog that were conceived and introduced by C. Crane.

Crane started as a woodworking and design firm over 30 years ago. We will celebrate our 25th year in radio in 2008 with several new radios and some exciting new high-power LED products. Mrs. C. Crane once said: “If you want to see the light at the end of the tunnel then you better build your own tunnel.” C. Crane built its tunnel with the help of the great people that work for us and who are responsible for our success.
