Sherlock Holmes and the County Courthouse Caper

Jeff Falkingham was born and raised in Browns Valley, Minnesota, and received a well-rounded education in the public school system, where he played football and baseball, and trumpet in the school band. He was a charter member of the Browns Valley Centennial Band, and long-time manager of Butch’s Buzzards softball team.

This is the second edition of a wonderful book from a Minnesota author. All proceeds from this wonderful read are dedicated to the ongoing and extended relief for the flood victims of Browns Valley, Minnesota.

Browns Valley, Minnesota's past, present and future are artfully linked in this second edition of Jeff Falkingham's popular work of historical fiction for young adults, first published in September 2001. The County Courthouse Caper tells the story of Browns Valley's frontier days, from the town's founding in the 1860s to the Traverse County Seat War in 1887. This special commemorative edition has been augmented with 18 photos, including 10 from the Flood of 2007 that damaged 140 homes in Browns Valley. Every penny of the $17 retail price of this book goes to a relief fund that will help ensure Browns Valley's recovery from the flood's devastation. In a world where timing often spells the difference between success and failure, The MERLIN Project® gives you a hedge on the Future. Think of it as a high-tech crystal ball, through which you can glimpse upcoming periods of intense activity or rest that indicate the best (and worst) times for launching projects, initiating and sealing business deals, getting married, scheduling non-emergency surgery, moving, taking on a new job -- in short, when to deal with major life changes, well in advance of their actual occurrence.

Powering the Plains Roadmap with Rolf Nordstrom, Program Director for the Great Plains Institute

Most people in North America don't give much thought to where their energy comes from. They just know that when it's dark, cold or hot, they want light, heat and cooling. The engineering marvel that is today s electric grid has delivered all those things, and more, so well that most of us now take them entirely for granted. Unfortunately, that same electric system also faces serious problems. Rising costs, aging infrastructure and global climate change are among the challenges that make an energy transition both necessary and urgent. Over the next half century we must dramatically change the way we produce, distribute and use energy.

How we make this energy transition is as much a social and political decision as it is a technological and economic one. This roadmap summarizes years of stakeholder negotiation about how the Upper Midwest can best position its energy and agriculture sectors to thrive in the future. It is not about picking technology winners and losers or micro-managing the market. Its aim is to illuminate paths forward that look economically and environmentally promising no matter what the future holds. It represents a consensus among leaders from Iowa, Manitoba, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota on how best to meet this challenge.

Getting the Job & Career Transition – with Executive Recruiter Rick Nelles

The Career Performance Portfolio System™ was developed by Rick Nelles, author of Proof of Performance: How to Build a Career Portfolio to Land a Great New Job (cited as the best job interviewing book of 2000 by nationally syndicated career columnist Joyce Lain Kennedy).

As an independent recruiter for Fortune 500 companies, small start- ups, and practically every type of organization in between, Rick has interviewed thousands of job candidates over his 25-year recruiting and coaching career. In the process, he's learned that job

seekers who can prove their resume and interview claims (instead of merely talking about them) by using a career portfolio have a significant edge over their competitors.

Now, as a career coach and nationally recognized portfolio expert, Rick teaches job seekers of all kinds (entry-level to senior-level) how to develop an effective career portfolio and -- as importantly -- how to use that portfolio to land interviews and get the job.

Nick Pope used to run the British Government's UFO project at the Ministry of Defence. Initially sceptical, his research and investigation into the UFO phenomenon and access to formerly classified government files on the subject soon convinced him that the phenomenon raised important defence and national security issues, especially when the witnesses were military pilots or where UFOs were tracked on radar.

Nick also looked into other mysteries such as alien abductions, crop circles and ghosts. He now continues his research in a private capacity and is recognised as a leading authority on UFOs and the unexplained. He does extensive media work, lectures all around the world and has acted as consultant on numerous television documentaries.

The Legislative Process Past and Present

Is the process broke? How and what has the Minnesota Legislative process changed since the mid 1950’s? What is our responsibility as voters? Is the process too partisan? Is there anything that prohibits the members from being able to get together at dinners and sharing the kind of camaraderie that existed in the past that seemed to translate into a more productive and functional process? Will there be another special legislative session?

The panel joining me for this very special program:

Kate Knuth a democrat elected to her first term in 2006.

John Berns a republican elected to his first term in 2006.

Rod Searle a republican from Waseca who served from 1956-1981.

Ray Faricy a democrat from St. Paul who served from 1971-1980 democrat.

Otto Bang a republican from Edina who served from 1963-1982. 10 years house, 10 years senate.

Reflections on a Changing Family - A Recipe Book of Life with Linda Knebel Pruden

Linda Knebel Pruden, a mother of three grown children, lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with her husband, Rob. She received a Master of Science degree in speech/language pathology from Purdue University. Although she has written five books for teachers, this is her first book for the general public. With a sense of honesty and fun, Linda also conducts seminars designed to empower students of all ages. For more information on Linda and/or her seminars visit her website: www.reflectionsonachangingfamily.com

What experiences are you thankful for?

The question is deceptively simple. But when Linda Knebel Pruden asked it, she found herself on a spiritual quest spanning a hundred years of American history. Reaching beyond memoir, Linda looks to her parents’ and grandparents’ lives to uncover the roots of the problems that surface again and again in her own life.

She finds tangled knots of stubbornness, mental illness, and determined self-sufficiency, but also great faith and unspoken depths of love. Triggering memories with the recipes of her immigrant heritage, she learns to appreciate both the triumphs and the losses that shaped her life, even decades before her birth.

Join Linda in listening for the truths that call to us again and again in our lives, and in celebrating everything we have to learn from and teach each other.
